Child Protection Whole of Organization Professional Development Project
PeakCare is now accepting expressions of interest from organisations who are in the Queensland North/Far North and Queensland Central regions to participate within a pilot program to deliver an innovative, new approach to targeted Child Protection professional development and training for our sector. Following the extremely successful pilot of the Child Protection Frontline Worker Statewide Skilling Program (2011) developed in partnership with The Department of Education and Training (DET), we are now in process of finalizing a whole of organization/whole of career learning project, which will allow non-government organisations (service providers) that are funded by the Department of Communities, Child Safety across Queensland to build capacity across their entire organization; governance, management, supervision and front line staff.
Expressions of interest must be received by February 29, 2012
Organizational Requirements Include:
- Commitment across the organization to participate in a whole of organization learning culture
- Willingness to release participating staff for approximately 3 days, 3-4 times across 12 months and to support independent study requirements
- Willingness to ensure staff are provided with ongoing access to the support and supervision provided within the program
- Willingness to consider a minimal co-contribution to program cost (amount will be subject to funding grant approval)
Program Goals and Objectives:
This professional development suite will be developed in partnership with The Department of Education and Training (DET) through the engagement with strategically located TAFE Institutes.
PeakCare, in partnership with The Department of Education and Training (DET) through the engagement with strategically located TAFE Institutes, will undertake to develop and implement a three tiered suite of child protection skilling and professional development opportunities which are:
• Administered 'whole of organization' and contribute to organizational and sector capacity building
• Child Protection specific
• Directly linked to current legislation and standards
• Founded upon the highest quality, most current, evidenced based practice
• Accredited and appropriately articulated/linked to allow for ongoing professional development and career progression
Method
The whole of organization learning model is a three tiered approach to child protection learning which includes:
1. Tier One: Governance, licensure and management, human resources
2. Tier Two: Child Protection Supervision framework and practice
3. Tier Three: Frontline Child Protection Practitioner framework and induction
The delivery method will be blended and include a comprehensive set of learning modules, which include face-to-face individual and group learning, supported independent learning and regular supervision and support. The learning protocol will be integrated within the organization's management and supervision practices and may in part be determined by their access to and comfort with technology. The units are to be assessed and accredited as part of a learning pathway and include comprehensive learning assessment strategies which may include:
1. Ongoing critical reflection
2. Testing
3. Written work
4. Project work
Outcomes and Benefits:
Participating organizations can expect to receive targeted, child protection specific, whole of organization learning which will increase the capacity, knowledge and skill of individual employees, the organization and the child protection sector as a whole through:
1. Undertaking a thorough learning analysis across the organization
2. Developing a tailored approach to ensuring that appropriate and accessible learning opportunities are provided across the organization
3. Ensuring that learning is accredited and articulated in a whole of career approach to education and professional development
4. Making use of a "community of practice" approach that encourages organizations that are involved in the project to share learning and resources

As a bit of a re-cap, we’d like to share some of our learning with you.
